Location|Greenville, SC
Program|Brewery
The brewery project started off as an analysis of Greenville and how the city grid breaks away due to the Reedy River’s organic movement. The idea of “breaking the grid” intrigued me and therefore the concept played a major role in my project. The initial intention was to have a lobby space act as a “spine,” it would connect the entire program together. However, it was obvious there had to be more. The lobby space evolved into an outdoor concept and the introduction of another element began, it was eventually called “connective tissue” or CT. The CT became the piece that interrupted the grid; the grid being the program of the brewery. The whole intent of the CT was to bleed it through the entire project; it became circulation, walls, overhead conditions, shelving, outdoor planters and so much more. The CT was an experiential and visually organizational element within the brewery.
